Police officers arrested 70 drivers over the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, refusing to take a test, and other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
The Police Directorate announced that, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 29 traffic accidents were recorded on Montenegrin roads, in which two people were seriously injured and seven were slightly injured.
As stated by the police, as part of their repressive activities, their officers filed 157 misdemeanor reports, issued 1.178 misdemeanor warrants, temporarily confiscated 12 pairs of license plates, and removed the same number of vehicles from traffic.
"70 drivers were arrested, of which 29 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in the body at a concentration of more than one per mille or refusing to take a breathalyzer test, and 22 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or other psychoactive substances or refusing to take a test," the statement said.
It is stated that 19 drivers were arrested for committing other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
"Of the total number of arrested persons, 31 drivers were arrested in Podgorica, where we single out VM, who was driving under the influence of alcohol in his body with a concentration of 2,91 per mille, and who in such a state caused a traffic accident," the police said.
As they said, a BP driver was also arrested in Podgorica, who was driving under the influence of alcohol with a concentration of 2,66 per mille and who also caused a traffic accident.
"They were brought before the acting magistrate for further jurisdiction within the legal deadline," the statement said.
Police said that, in addition, seven drivers were arrested in Ulcinj and Bar.
"The police administration appeals to all traffic participants to respect traffic regulations and in this way contribute to both personal and other traffic participants' safety," the announcement states.
