Turkish citizen BT (41) was arrested this morning at Podgorica airport on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of forging a document, the Police Directorate announced.

It is alleged that border police officers determined through a check that BT had been illegally residing in Montenegro since July 7 last year, when his temporary residence and work permit expired.

As the police administration said, BT gave the border police officials a confirmation of receipt of the application for the issuance of a temporary residence and work permit from October 1 last year, whose credibility and correctness they doubted.

"According to the above, a detailed border control of this person was carried out at the second line of border checks, as well as a check at the Regional Unit for Civil Status and Personal Documents of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. These comprehensive checks determined that the certificate that BT provided to police officers was forged," the statement said.

In addition, it was also determined that this person's request for an extension of his temporary residence and work permit was denied on September 16th of last year.

"The prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was informed of all of the above, and after collecting information from this person in the presence of a Turkish language interpreter, he ordered his detention on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of forging a document," the police said.

BT will, the statement added, be brought before the prosecutor in charge for further proceedings within the legal deadline, along with a criminal complaint.
