The Police Directorate announced that from December 15, 2025 to January 15 of this year, during the "Firecracker" operation, more than 107.000 pieces of pyrotechnic devices were seized, and that criminal charges were filed in two cases.
"The implementation of the aforementioned planned activity aimed to take preventive action to combat the illegal sale and use of pyrotechnics, with a special emphasis on class II pyrotechnics - firecrackers, as well as to protect minors from the consequences of their misuse. During the implementation of the operational action 'Firecrackers', officers of the Police Directorate, independently and in cooperation with other competent services and authorities, conducted visits and inspections of locations near schools, markets, bazaars and other places where illegal sales of pyrotechnics had been recorded in the previous period, and took measures and actions in accordance with applicable legal regulations"; the statement reads.
They say that, during the aforementioned period, police officers from the General Police Sector and four regional security centers across the country confiscated 106.585 firecrackers and 482 fireworks of various types.
"In all cases, police officers informed the competent basic state prosecutor about the seizure of pyrotechnic devices. In two cases, the competent prosecutors declared that it was a criminal offense of illegal possession of weapons and explosives, and criminal charges were filed against the responsible persons within the legal deadline," the police added.
They say that during the operation, Police Directorate officers maintained continuous communication with health institutions in all municipalities, and that they were promptly informed about the arrival of both minors and adults, in order to provide medical assistance for injuries caused by the use of pyrotechnic devices.
It was recorded that eight people sustained physical injuries, of which one minor in Podgorica was seriously injured, and six minors and one adult were slightly injured.
The seized pyrotechnic devices will, in accordance with the law, be handed over to the competent Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"In order to further prevent the illicit trade and misuse of pyrotechnic devices, Police Directorate officers will continue to implement preventive and operational activities in the coming period, with special emphasis on the period of the year when this issue is particularly pronounced," the statement reads.
