Danilovgrad resident I.Đ. (34) was arrested on suspicion of stealing a wallet containing over 700 euros from a sports betting shop, the Police Directorate announced.
The police announced that officers of the Danilovgrad Security Department, undertaking activities to investigate criminal offenses in the field of property crime, and acting upon a previous report from the injured party, identified, located and arrested a person of operational interest from Danilovgrad suspected of theft.
"After conducting a criminal investigation, I.Đ. (34) was, by order of the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, deprived of liberty on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of theft, to the detriment of a person from Danilovgrad. It is suspected that on January 7, 2025, while staying in a sports betting shop, the named person, taking advantage of the carelessness of the injured party, stole a wallet containing over 700 euros," the statement states.
It is added that the suspect was brought to the competent prosecutor for further action within the legal deadline.
The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica announced that the suspect I.Đ. has been ordered to be detained for up to 72 hours, due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of theft.
"It is suspected that on January 7, 2026, in a betting shop in Danilovgrad, I.D. took someone else's movable property - a wallet with money in the amount of 700,00 euros, owned by the injured party LK," the ODT announced.
The suspect was detained due to the risk of reoffending, given that he is a multiple offender, as well as the risk of influencing witnesses, the prosecutor's office said.
