The Police Directorate (UP) announced today that the police did not provide security for the friendly football match between Buducnost and third-league club Ilarion, which was played today in the Podgorica neighborhood of Stari Aerodrom.
"Vijesti" announced earlier today that the most ardent fans of Buducnost, the "Barbarians", interrupted the match between Buducnost and Ilarion today.
The UP stated in a statement that seven people have been brought to the police station so far, and that they will check whether the event was organized in accordance with the law.
"Regarding the interruption of today's training match, which was played at the Old Airport in Podgorica between FK 'Budućnost' and FK 'Ilarion', we would like to inform you of the following: The Podgorica Security Department's emergency service was called today, 24. 1. 2026, at 1:19 p.m. by the executive director of FK 'Budućnost', on which occasion he said that a football training match was being played on the field at the Old Airport between FK 'Budućnost' and FK 'Ilarion'. On that occasion, he reported that the training match was interrupted when 25 to 30 masked persons entered the field and, using pyrotechnics, also picked up and took away the balls used in the match," the UP statement states.
The police added that the officers acted upon the report and that to this point, they have brought seven people, four of whom are minors, to the premises of the Podgorica Security Department for processing.
"The police continue to take further measures and actions to determine all the facts related to the interruption of the match. The Police Directorate is determining all the facts and circumstances related to the aforementioned event, at which police officers were not present, nor were they previously informed about its holding, including whether FK 'Budućnost' organized the sports event in accordance with the Law on Public Gatherings and Public Events, and in connection with which, the public will be informed in a timely manner about the outcome of the checks," the UP statement reads.
