A Croatian citizen, VB, was arrested after an undeclared gun with ammunition was found in a vehicle at the Debeli Brijeg border crossing.
The weapons were discovered yesterday by customs officers, in cooperation with officers from the Police Directorate, during a regular border control, the Customs Directorate announced.
"At the entrance to Montenegro, a Ford Transit Courier passenger vehicle with Croatian license plates approached, driven by JN, while VB was in the passenger seat, both citizens of the Republic of Croatia. During the customs control of the vehicle, a hidden handbag was found under the passenger seat containing a HS brand pistol - a Croatian self-propelled gun, model Echelon 4.0 Compact, caliber 9x19mm, with 12 rounds of ammunition," the statement reads.
The competent prosecutor and the head of the Debeli Brijeg Customs Office were informed about the event.
Officers of the Herceg Novi Border Police Station took statements from the aforementioned persons, after which, by order of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Herceg Novi, VB was arrested on suspicion of committing a criminal offense - illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives.
"The Customs Administration, in coordination with the Police Administration, continues to implement enhanced control measures, in an effort to protect the safety of citizens and prevent the illegal import of goods and weapons across the state border," they said.
