UP: Red Notice for Miloš Medenica published on Interpol's official website

The red warrant for Miloš Medenica was published publicly on the official Interpol website at the request of the Montenegrin police, the Police Directorate (UP) announced today.

"At the request of the Police Directorate - NCB Interpol Podgorica, the General Secretariat of Interpol in Lyon today issued a public international arrest warrant for Miloš Medenica (39), a Montenegrin citizen, born in Kolašin. Yesterday, on January 29, 2026, the NCB Interpol Podgorica issued an international arrest warrant for Miloš Medenica in accordance with the order of the Higher Court in Podgorica and the consent of the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro for issuing an international arrest warrant, which order and consent were delivered to the Police Directorate on the same day, January 29, 2026," the statement states.

The UP added that Miloš Medenica, according to the Interpol arrest warrant issued pursuant to the order in question, is internationally wanted for the purpose of conducting criminal proceedings under the indictment of the Special State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro, for the following criminal offenses: creation of a criminal organization, the extended criminal offense of smuggling, two criminal offenses of unlawful influence through aiding and abetting, the extended criminal offense of facilitating the consumption of narcotic drugs, the extended criminal offense of illegal possession of weapons and explosives, grievous bodily harm through incitement, and obstruction of evidence.

"The Police Directorate informs citizens that, if they have information about this person or the movements or place of residence of this person, they can report this information by calling 122, via the Virtual Police Station application (there is an anonymous reporting option), to the nearest police station or in another way. NCB Interpol Podgorica will continuously inform the public about persons who are the subject of national and international searches, with a special focus on persons who are members of organized criminal groups and perpetrators of the most serious criminal offenses," the UP said.

Although the police were obliged to carry out surveillance so that the head of the organized crime organization Miloš Medenica would not escape from house arrest, it is clear that this is just one of the links in the system that failed in this high-profile case, because if the trial had been conducted within a reasonable time, the state would not have suffered another slap in the face in the face in the processing of one of the most important cases of corruption and organized crime.

Medenica's escape exposed a devastating picture of the lack of verdicts in cases of organized crime and corruption, numerous endless trials, and the number of over 300 people, mostly members of organized crime groups, who are currently being monitored by the police at the request and measures of the court in order to prevent them from fleeing or from obstructing criminal proceedings.

Miloš Medenica and his mother, former President of the Supreme Court Vesna Medenica, were sentenced to multi-year sentences on Wednesday by a first-instance decision of the panel of Judge Vesna Kovačević - 10 years and two months, or a decade in prison.

The Medenices did not attend the verdict, and even before the decision was announced, the police determined that Miloš Medenice was not in the family apartment at Ulcinjska 2, and subsequent investigation determined that he had left just a few hours before the criminal panel's decision was announced in the courtroom.

Due to Medenica's escape, the police, as they stated, immediately notified the President of the Higher Court, Zoran Radović, who imposed the measure.
