The Supreme Court Council, at the proposal of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), extended the detention of three Rožaje residents for another three months - former commander and head of the city's criminal police Sead Husović, border police officer Džemal Kurpejović, and Alis Mujević, son of accused smuggler Mujo Mujević.
The SDT suspects them of being part of a tobacco cartel that organized cigarette smuggling.
"According to the ruling, there is a reasonable suspicion that AM, as a member of a criminal organization, on the orders of the organizer, participated in organizing the unloading and storage of untaxed cigarettes on the territory of Rožaje, found buyers, agreed on the quantities and prices of cigarettes, recruited other persons to carry out criminal activities, and personally or through other members of the criminal organization took over and kept the money obtained from the sale of untaxed cigarettes," the court announced.
"The defendant Dž. K. is reasonably suspected of having, as a member of a criminal organization, on the orders of the organizer, participated in the unloading and storage of untaxed cigarettes, their transportation to buyers, as well as in taking over the money from the sale, which he handed over to the organizers of the criminal organization. The defendant SH is reasonably suspected of having, as the head of the Criminal Police Station in Rožaje, abused his official position by informing the organizer and other members of the criminal organization about the measures and actions that the police and customs authorities were taking or planning to take, thereby enabling the untaxed cigarettes to be transported unhindered and avoiding their detection," the statement added.
The custody of the three defendants was extended due to the risk of flight.
Mujević, Kurpejović and Husović were initially remanded in custody by a decision of the investigating judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica dated November 12, 2025, and extended by a decision of the Criminal Chamber of that court dated December 9, 2025, so that, according to this decision of the Supreme Court, their detention may last until May 10.
