The attempt to put Vesna Bratić in the same basket as the leaders of the corrupt and criminal system of the previous regime is not a fight for justice, but an attempt to relativize real crime and equate victims with executioners, the People's Trust Movement (PNP) announced today.
"The news that Vesna Bratić was arrested this morning, with her public appearance in handcuffs, represents a dangerous attempt to equate incomparable things and a gross violation of the basic principles of justice, reason and human perception. We deeply advocate that everyone who broke the law bears responsibility, without exception and without privileges. However, equating a person who is the main actor in the depoliticization of the education system of the previous regime, such as the dismissal of school principals, with those who systematically destroyed and plundered the state, participated in organized crime, extracted money from public enterprises and enabled harmful concessions, represents conscious manipulation of the public, and a strong blow to her as a woman and as an academic citizen," the PNP, headed by Dragoslav Šćekić, said in a statement.
The party said that "Bratić is not a member of an organized crime group, she did not rob state-owned enterprises, nor was she part of a network that has devastated institutions for decades."
"If there is any possible guilt, it must be determined in accordance with the law, but before that there is a much longer and more difficult list of those who really brought this country to the brink of collapse. The attempt to put Bratić in the same basket as the bearers of the corrupt and criminal system of the previous regime is not a fight for justice, but an attempt to relativize real crime and equate victims with executioners. That is not justice. That is a substitution of theses. And that must be pointed out clearly and loudly," the DNP statement reads.
Former Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vesna Bratić was arrested earlier today in an investigation by the SDT.
Officers from the Special Police Department (SPO) arrested her this morning in Podgorica. She was taken to the "Limenka" building, where the SPO headquarters are located, after 11 a.m. She left the building after questioning at around 13 p.m.
Bratić was arrested in a separate investigation by the SDT, which is unrelated to this morning's arrest of former Director of the Property Administration Blaž Šaranović.
