The Police Directorate (UP) announced that five people suspected of thefts in Podgorica have been arrested, including minors who are repeat offenders.
"Police officers of the Podgorica Security Department have solved several criminal cases of theft and aggravated theft committed in the territory of the Capital City and, on the order of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, have deprived five persons of their liberty, including four minors, multiple repeat offenders in committing criminal offenses. Almost 3.000 euros, mobile phones and a laptop computer were stolen," the UP statement said.
The police added that, on the prosecutor's order, two minors, aged 16 and 17, who were registered in police records as multiple repeat offenders in the field of property crimes, were arrested on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of aggravated theft.
"It is suspected that on February 9, the minors stole envelopes containing around 1.190 euros from a bookstore. Then, on February 14, they stole around 400 euros from the premises of a business company. Three days later, in the early morning hours, using a suitable tool and physical force, they broke the glass on the door of a business building, from where they stole around 200 euros. It is suspected that immediately after that, they stole around 60 euros from a pharmacy nearby," the statement said.
The police add that it is suspected that the stolen money was later spent on games of chance.
"The police have solved three criminal cases of aggravated theft, committed at the expense of two sports betting shops and one catering establishment, and on the order of the prosecutor, deprived a 17-year-old minor, a repeat offender, of his liberty. It is suspected that on February 12, in the early morning hours, the minor broke the glass on the front door of a betting shop and stole a Samsung mobile phone and a metal cash register with approximately 72 euros from inside. Previously, with the help of a minor and another currently unknown person, he broke open the door of another betting shop, after which they carried out a search. They then stole money in the amount of 758 euros from a catering establishment," the statement reads.
The UP said that another 17-year-old juvenile, also a repeat offender, was arrested on suspicion of committing the crime of theft.
"He is suspected of snatching a Samsung mobile phone from the hands of a 60-year-old victim while they were walking down the street at the end of November last year, after which he fled in an unknown direction, and a few days later sold the phone for 50 euros. The phone in question was found and returned to its owner," the UP statement concluded.
