The Police Directorate has information about the logistical support for the escape that was provided. Miloš Medenica They also informed the acting state prosecutor about this, the institution told "Vijesti".
They state that they took statements from dozens of people in this regard, and that they also successively inspected hundreds of buildings - apartments, houses and other spaces.
"The police cannot share any information about the above with the public at this time, because the answer to this question would interfere with the operational work of the Police Directorate," they replied when asked if they had any clues as to where the first-instance defendant, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison, was hiding.
They explained that after conducting an analysis and reconstruction of the movements of a certain number of people close to Miloš Medenica, they came to the conclusion that he left the house on January 27, 2026 at around 11:00 p.m., thereby violating the court's supervision measure.
So he did this the night before the verdict was pronounced, on January 28th, when the judge Vesna Kovačević ordered his detention. However, the police did not find him at the address.
The Police Department also explained the specific legal and operational reasons for issuing an international arrest warrant for Miloš Medenica:
"After the acting judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica issued a verdict in the current case on 28. 1. 2026 after 16.00:1 p.m., by which verdict Miloš Medenica was sentenced to 10 years and two months in prison and ordered detention for the same person, based on which decision this person should have been taken to UIKS to serve the sentence, the legal conditions were met for issuing an arrest warrant for this person, who was at that time on the run. The police informed the Court that the person was unavailable, and the Court issued an arrest warrant at the national level. In further activities, the Police Directorate obtained the consent of the Ministry of Justice and, on 29. 1. 2026, the NCB Interpol Podgorica issued an international arrest warrant for this person, and based on the order of the Higher Court in Podgorica and the aforementioned consent of the Ministry of Justice for issuing an international arrest warrant, which order and consent were delivered to the Police Directorate on the same day, "January 29, 2026. The international arrest warrant for Miloš Medenica, issued by the NCB Interpol Podgorica, was immediately active on the same day at the Interpol Central Bureau," said the institution.
They, however, did not confirm or deny whether this means they have information that Medenica has left the country.
"We cannot share the operational findings of the Police Directorate on this issue with the public for understandable reasons that protect the smooth implementation of police and prosecutorial activities. However, the police, in order to take comprehensive measures in the search for wanted persons, as a rule, also issue an international arrest warrant, because the Interpol red notice aims to find and deprive persons wanted in other countries, since persons can also leave the country illegally."
They also claim that at this moment there is no information that would indicate that officers of the Border Police Sector failed to take any measure or action related to Medenica, that is, from the moment they learned that this person was unavailable to state authorities and was on the run.
"The Police Directorate is not able to provide the public with information related to the direction of movement of the aforementioned person... The Police Directorate, in coordination with the competent State Prosecutor's Office, is taking all legally prescribed measures and actions that should lead to the successful location, finding and deprivation of liberty of the fugitive person, and for this reason we are not able to present to the public what operational-tactical measures and actions have been taken, nor what activities are underway, and therefore what the police, together with the Prosecutor's Office, are considering as possible, probable or certain behavior of this person who is being intensively searched for at all levels."
They announced that, as a body dedicated to transparency in its work, they understand the public's interest in the topic and fully accept and approve of the public's right to know.
"However, you will understand that at this moment, when police and prosecutorial activities to find and detain this person are ongoing, we are unable to share with the public more details than those that have been announced so far. The police are searching for Miloš Medenica at all levels, both nationally and internationally, and are taking all necessary operational-tactical and technical measures and actions, which we believe will lead to his being brought to justice," the responses to "Vijesti" state.
Recordings, calls and inclusions
A few days after the escape, an alleged video of Miloš Medenica appeared in public, in which he criticizes the leaders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police Directorate...
The footage began to appear, and the police immediately determined that they were fake footage, or rather, the product of artificial intelligence.
They never responded to "Vijesti" - as they found out.
Appearing on the show "Načisto" on Television Vijesti, the director of that institution, Lazar Šćepanović, said that the recording was the product of artificial intelligence and that he had been informed about it by the police group for high-tech crime, noting that formal forensic actions would require an order from the prosecutor.
Ahead of last week's episode of the show, show creator Petar Komnenić received a message on the Signal app from a person claiming to be Medenica. After an argument in the first episode of the show, Komnenić made a video call with the alleged Medenica during commercials, after which he noted that the person "seemed very real."
Vesna Medenica is now being constantly followed.
The President of the Council of the Special Department of the Higher Court in Podgorica, Vesna Kovačević, recently submitted a written order to the Police Directorate with instructions to keep an eye on the former President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, Vesna Medenica, 24 hours a day, during the performance of the surveillance measure.
She wrote instructions to the police in the order, asking them, among other things, to "actively, i.e. 24 hours a day" monitor whether the former first lady of the judicial branch of government, after being sentenced in the first instance to a decade in prison for unlawful influence, complies with the court measure - a ban on leaving Kolašin.
