The body of Montenegrin mountaineer Ćazim Fetahović, who fell yesterday while climbing Hajla, was found after a search that began last night, "Vijesti" has learned.
Some time earlier, rescuers continued the search, which they had previously suspended due to poor weather conditions and thick fog, and located the watch of the fallen hiker, a kilometer away from the Gropa hut on Hajla.
Montenegrin mountaineers, members of the Rožaje and Kosovo Mountain Rescue Services, as well as firefighters and police officers from Rožaje participated in the rescue operation.
According to information from "Vijesti", Fetahović was walking along a hiking trail when, near the summit, he fell through a snowdrift, an overhang formed due to strong winds and the accumulation of snow above a steep slope.
"Vijesti" was unofficially told earlier today by the Police Directorate that the team of Croatian mountaineers, with whom Fetahović was on the climb yesterday, is at the Rožaje police station to give a statement.
According to reports from the field, two other hikers from the same group almost fell through the snow on the same stretch, but managed to hold on thanks to ice axes. They were then pulled to a safe part of the trail by the rest of the team.
Members of the Mountain Rescue Service from Mitrovica, several Montenegrin mountaineers from several clubs, as well as the Border Police of Montenegro, joined the search operation.
According to information from the field, members of the Mountain Rescue Service of Montenegro were not involved in the operation.
The GSS of Montenegro told "Vijesti" that their colleagues from Kosovo were closer to arriving, because weather conditions did not allow the helicopter to take off, but that they are in contact with rescuers on the ground.
The prosecutor's office was notified of the incident.
The search for Fetahović has been ongoing since last night in extremely demanding conditions, with heavy snow drifts and fog.
