Police on Djukanovic's arrest: Rifles and pistol found in illegal possession, documentation seized

Businessman Aco Đukanović was arrested on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives, the Police Directorate and the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić confirmed.

"There is reasonable suspicion that A. Đ. was illegally keeping weapons and ammunition in his house in Nikšić," announced the ODT, on whose orders Đukanović was arrested.

The police have issued a statement regarding yesterday's searches in Podgorica and Nikšić.

"Police officers of the Police Directorate - Crime Prevention Sector, with the support of the Special Police Unit and inspectors of the Regional Security Centers 'Center' and 'West', yesterday and during the night searched several buildings and premises, based on the orders obtained from the locally competent prosecutor's offices and courts in Podgorica and Nikšić, used by the person A. Đ. (60) residing in Podgorica," the statement reads.

They said that several lawyers attended the searches.

During the search in Podgorica, police officers seized certain documentation, which, as announced, was notified to the competent prosecutor's office, and a case will be opened for further proceedings.

"Due to the protection of the interests of police officers, at this time we are unable to provide more information about the activities carried out in the territory of Podgorica," the police said.

Further activities of SBPK officers, undertaken in the territory of Nikšić, during a search of a family house in Rastoci, police officers found a large quantity of firearms and ammunition: a hunting carbine "Mauser" with an optical sight, in illegal possession; a rifle of the brand "Brno" with an optical sight of the brand "Busnell", in illegal possession; a shotgun rifle of an unknown brand, in illegal possession; a pistol of an unknown brand, in illegal possession; a hunting carbine "M-48", in illegal possession; a pistol "CZ 99 PARA" with a frame containing five rounds of ammunition and a weapons certificate in the name of a deceased family member; more than 400 rounds of ammunition of different brands and calibers; three empty frames; five protective ballistic body armor; binoculars of the brand "Zeiss".

Djukanovic will be brought before the prosecutor for further proceedings within the legal deadline.

"Officers of the Police Directorate, both in this and in all previous cases, are taking measures and actions within their jurisdiction in an unselective, professional and lawful manner, and are continuing the uncompromising fight against crime, with the aim of raising the level of security and citizens' trust in the work of institutions and establishing the rule of law and legal certainty," the statement reads.
