Berane District Prosecutor's Office: Detention of up to 72 hours for a suspect in domestic violence who caused minor bodily injuries to his wife?

The Basic State Prosecutor's Office (ODT) in Berane announced today that a detention of up to 72 hours has been ordered for SM, a suspect, for the criminal offense of domestic violence or violence in a family community.

"Suspect SM was given 23. 3. 2026. "On 15 June 2018, during the afternoon hours, in a family house in the settlement of Donje Luge, Berane Municipality, in an intoxicated state, he slightly physically injured a family member - his wife, the injured party SM, and endangered the safety of the injured party by threatening to attack her life and body, and treated her in a manner that insulted human dignity, by coming to the kitchen of the family house, ordering her to pick up lunch, which he had previously thrown away, and then repeatedly addressed insulting and threatening words to her, which is why the injured party tried to escape, when the defendant grabbed her left hand, squeezing it tightly, on which occasion he inflicted minor physical injuries on her," the Berane ODT statement states.

The prosecutor's office added that the suspect was detained due to circumstances indicating that he will repeat the crime.

"In the further course of the procedure, necessary measures and actions will be taken, with the aim of reaching a decision in this case," the statement concludes.
