The Montenegrin police will conduct increased preventive activities and controls on roads across the country during the upcoming May Day holidays and weekends, the Police Directorate announced, calling on drivers to show additional caution and consistently comply with traffic regulations.
Increased controls will be carried out, as stated, by traffic police officers from all regional security centers, as well as officers from the Mobile Traffic Police Unit.
"Given the expected increased traffic frequency, the goal of these activities will be to reduce the number of traffic accidents, especially those with the most serious consequences, as well as to ensure safe and uninterrupted road traffic during holidays and weekends," the statement says.
The police pointed out that the human factor continues to be the dominant cause of traffic accidents with the most serious consequences.
"A special focus of police controls will be on sanctioning the most common violations, including: inappropriate and illegal speed, driving under the influence of alcohol and psychoactive substances, using mobile phones while driving, improper overtaking, and failure to wear a seat belt," the police said.
They called on all road users to contribute to their own safety, as well as the safety of their fellow passengers and other drivers, through responsible and conscientious behavior.
"We appeal to all citizens, especially young drivers, novice drivers, and motorcyclists, to show extra caution and consistently comply with applicable traffic regulations," the police said.
