MJ (32) from Zeta was arrested on suspicion of being connected to the smuggling of 107 kilograms of marijuana across Lake Skadar, the Police Directorate (UP) announced today.
"In continuation of police and prosecutorial activities in connection with the event of January 26, 2026, when a planned activity of officers of the Border Police Sector was implemented, which resulted in the seizure of 107 kilograms of marijuana, thus preventing an attempt to smuggle this drug across the waters of Lake Skadar to the territory of Montenegro for its further circulation, officers of the Border Police Sector - Department for Suppression of Cross-Border Crime yesterday, upon the order of the State Prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, deprived the person MJ (32) from Zeta of his liberty," the statement states.
The UP added that it is suspected that MJ is connected to smuggling and that he is charged with the criminal offense of unauthorized production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs.
"With a criminal complaint filed within the legal deadline, he was brought before the acting state prosecutor for further jurisdiction. We remind you that on January 26, 2026, as a result of the activities of the Border Police Sector, 107 kilograms of the narcotic drug marijuana were found and seized in the town of Vranj, in the immediate vicinity of Lake Skadar, and after that, the person A.Lj. was identified, located and deprived of liberty on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of unauthorized production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs, as well as the criminal offense of facilitating the consumption of narcotic drugs," the statement reads.
The Police Department said that MJ is registered in police records as a repeat offender in committing criminal offenses related to drug abuse.
