Podgorica: Arrested on suspicion of forcing his wife and two minor children to beg

Podgorica police arrested MM from Novi Pazar, residing in Podgorica, on suspicion of forcing his wife and two minor children to beg.

As announced by the Police Directorate, he is suspected of domestic violence and human trafficking, to the detriment of his wife and two minor children.

"It is suspected that MM, by making threats and abusing the relationship of dependency, recruited his wife and minor children aged 11 and 12 for the purpose of begging, forcing them to skip school and beg every Friday during a certain period in front of a religious building in Podgorica. MM is also suspected of the criminal offense of domestic violence or family violence, which he committed against his wife by making threatening remarks to her life and body, which caused her to feel threatened," the police announced.

Prosecutors at the Higher and Basic State Prosecutor's Offices in Podgorica were informed about the event.

"MM was deprived of his liberty by order of the senior state prosecutor and he will be brought before this prosecutor for further jurisdiction within the legal deadline, with a criminal report, while a criminal report against him for the criminal offense of domestic or family violence will be filed in the regular procedure," it added.
