During April, as part of the "Respect Life, Return Weapons" campaign, citizens voluntarily handed over 62 firearms, 1.120 pieces of ammunition, and 46 pieces of explosive devices to the police, the Police Directorate (UP) announced.
As they point out, this indicates the continuation of citizens' responsible attitude towards community security.
"According to records, the most weapons in April were surrendered in the southern and central regions of the country. In the territory under the jurisdiction of the Regional Security Center 'Centar', in Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Tuzi and Cetinje, citizens voluntarily surrendered 17 weapons to the police, of which the most were surrendered in Podgorica and Cetinje," they announced.
They add that, on the territory of the Regional Security Center "South", in Herceg Novi, Budva, Bar, Kotor and Ulcinj, 25 weapons were returned, most of which were in Herceg Novi and Ulcinj.
"In the northern region of the country, in the territory under the jurisdiction of the Regional Security Center 'North', in Andrijevica, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Kolašin and Mojkovac, citizens surrendered nine weapons, while in the territory under the jurisdiction of the Regional Security Center 'West', in Nikšić and Pljevlja, 11 weapons were voluntarily surrendered," they pointed out.
The Police Department indicates that of the total number of weapons surrendered during April, the largest number were pistols — 34 pieces, followed by 25 rifles and three revolvers.
"We appeal to citizens to continue to responsibly contribute to the overall security of society and to surrender weapons, ammunition and explosives without legal consequences, i.e. criminal or misdemeanor liability, regardless of whether they possess them legally or illegally," the statement concludes.
