Nikolina Mišnić, Igor Krstović's lawyer, announced today that her client did not undergo surgery at the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) today, and that it is questionable whether he will be able to undergo surgery at that health institution.
Krstović is considered a high-ranking member of the Škaljari criminal clan.
Mišnić stated in the statement that it has been indisputable for many years that Krstović must undergo surgery, because, as the lawyer states, his health condition has been seriously impaired due to previously sustained injuries.
"Since the initial intervention only temporarily repaired the problems that had to be adequately resolved through further treatment, he has been suffering from unbearably severe pain throughout the entire waiting period. Despite the continuous deterioration of his health, he has not had surgery to date and it is questionable whether he will be able to have surgery at the KCCG, which he was only informed about two years after he was placed on the waiting list for surgery," Mišnić said in a statement.
She added that the decision to operate on Krstović was made by a council of doctors at the KCCG, but that despite the fact that the operation should have been performed much earlier, it has not yet been specified when and where the surgery will be performed.
"They stated in the report that in the next four weeks they will try to provide a special knee prosthesis necessary for the surgery and a professional consultant. If this is not possible within the Clinical Center, Krstović will be referred to a referral health institution that has the conditions to perform the procedure," said Mišnić.
According to her, the fact is that Krstović's health condition is continuously deteriorating and that it could put his life in danger at any moment, due to the fact that he has previously had multiple orthopedic interventions, including the implantation of osteosynthetic and PMMA material, which now represent an obstacle to the normal function of his leg and cause severe pain.
"Although the decision of the medical council to perform the operation represents an important step forward, the question remains who will bear responsibility for the two lost years and the impaired health of Igor Krstović, and what the consequences of the delay will be. The question arises as to why the operation has not been performed so far, as well as why it took two years to even begin to determine the circumstances regarding the existence of the KCCG conditions for its performance. The fact is that due to the excessive delay and untimely provision of health care, and the violation of all reasonable deadlines, Igor Krstović's health condition has seriously deteriorated, and that during all that time he has been suffering from severe pain. The question also arises as to whether the untimely provision of health care constitutes a failure in treatment, on which we will take a position depending on the development of the situation," said Mišnić in a statement.
