Podgorica taxi drivers suspected of smuggling migrants

Officers of the Mixed Operational Team for Dismantling the Migrant Smuggling Network today filed a criminal complaint with the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica against three Montenegrin citizens from Podgorica, on suspicion of smuggling migrants from Somalia, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

According to the statement of the Police Directorate, it is suspected that the reported NF (23), BP (26) and D.Ž. (45) from Podgorica, on May 13, as employees of a taxi association from Podgorica, using the company's vehicles, arrived near the Božaj border crossing and accepted 12 persons from the migrant population into the vehicles with the intention of, in order to obtain illegal material gain, enabling them to transit and take them to the bus station in Podgorica, in which they were prevented and stopped by a border police patrol on the Tuzi-Podgorica main road.

The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was informed of the event, and after collecting information, he ordered that criminal charges be filed against the aforementioned persons in regular proceedings, on suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and human smuggling.

The statement notes that D.Ž. is a repeat offender in the commission of the criminal offense in question, while BP is recorded as the perpetrator of a large number of criminal offenses in the area of ​​property crime.
