A case of animal abuse was discovered in Klikovače: Dogs starved, suspected of being used for fighting

In Klikovače, near Danilovgrad, one of the most serious cases of animal abuse in Montenegro was discovered today - animal protection activist Daliborka Rešetar, acting on a report from locals, found more than 30 Staffordshire bull terriers in extremely poor conditions, without adequate food and water, visibly starving and in poor health.

According to information from the field, there are pregnant females among the dogs, and a large number show signs of illness and long-term neglect.

Traces were also found at the site that suggest that some of the dogs were used for fighting, and skeletal remains of the dogs - bones and jaws - were also found.

After the report, the police and veterinary inspection arrived on the scene.

After conducting an inspection, the veterinary inspector concluded that the animals were in very poor conditions and that they needed to be urgently moved to a safe location.

During the day, a large number of volunteers, activists, and veterinarians participated in the action of providing first aid to the animals, which were fed and watered after who knows how much time spent in inhumane conditions.

While authorities are determining all the circumstances of the case, volunteers are looking for an answer - where will the Danilovgrad Municipality place the dogs tonight, in order to save them.

That they need urgent care, treatment, and safe accommodation could also be heard in the field, where the veterinary inspector and veterinarians are present.

Rešetar told "Vijesti" that, at the invitation of locals, she came to Klikovače to check on a report that a large number of Staffordshire bull terriers were housed in very poor conditions and that their health was at risk.

"I found real horror on the spot. The dogs were placed in boxes and houses, visibly exhausted and in a state of health danger. I immediately informed the police, who went to the scene. The police then contacted the municipal police, who, however, only arrived on the scene in the evening hours, after a call from activist Aleksandar Dragićević," said Rešetar.

She stated that upon being called, veterinary inspector Ružica Mirković also went to the field, and after conducting an inspection, she concluded that the dogs were in very poor conditions and that they needed to be moved to a safe location.

"A large number of volunteers and civic activists gathered in the field and together we managed to feed and water the dogs. At the call of the veterinary inspector, a veterinarian from the Royal Vet clinic also went to the field, who concluded that the dogs were in very poor condition, and that there was a reasonable suspicion that they had been used for fighting. We are awaiting an answer - where the dogs will be relocated," said Rešetar.

Volunteers told the "Vijesti" reporter that DV came to Klikovače today and claimed that he only owned a few dogs.

The veterinary inspector issued an order to move the dogs to a safe location.
