The Socialist People's Party (SNP) of Montenegro announced that it strongly condemns the attack on the councilor in the Capital City Assembly, Milivoje Brković.
According to them, physical attacks on socio-political activists, regardless of their political or ideological affiliation, represent a direct attack on democracy, freedom of speech and basic human rights in Montenegro.
"The time when dissenters were silenced by force and street methods must irrevocably remain in the past. Montenegro strives to be a society of the rule of law and European values, and in such a system there is and must be no place for violence, intolerance and primitivism," the SNP statement said.
They called on the Police Directorate and the competent prosecutor's office to urgently and without delay shed light on all the circumstances of the incident.
"The Socialist People's Party once again appeals to the entire public for mutual respect and dialogue. Our common obligation is to build a safe society for all its citizens, and we wish colleague Brković a speedy recovery," it concludes.
