UP: Reported incident involving a minor in front of an elementary school in Podgorica, he is with his mother

An incident involving a minor in front of an elementary school in Podgorica has been reported to the police, statements are being taken from the perpetrators at police premises, and the public will be informed of the results of police activities, the Police Directorate (PD) announced today.

The Police Department issued a statement "regarding information that was unofficially placed in the media and via social networks, which relates to the fact that an adult male person forcibly threw an 8th grade elementary school student into a vehicle today in front of an elementary school in Podgorica."

"The incident was reported to the Podgorica Security Department today by the staff of the elementary school in Podgorica, in front of which the incident occurred. The police immediately acted upon the report and a police patrol very quickly, after a few minutes, noticed a stopped vehicle on the boulevard near this school with two adults next to it - one male and one female, as well as a 14-year-old minor. In the meantime, the mother of this minor also arrived at the scene," the statement states.

The Police Department said that all persons were brought to the Podgorica Security Department, where statements are being taken from all those involved in the incident, as well as witnesses.

"A 14-year-old minor is with his parent - mother. The police are intensively undertaking activities to establish all the facts. The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica has been notified of the incident. The case is ongoing. Upon completion of the police and prosecutorial activities in the first phase, the public will be informed in a timely manner about their results," the UP said.

Popović: There was a disagreement between a student and a boy who is not a student at the "Pavle Rovinski" Elementary School

The principal of Podgorica's "Pavle Rovinski" Elementary School (OS) Nataša Popović told "Vijesti" that the incident took place today outside the school yard, after the first shift students had finished their classes.

"According to the information we have, in the immediate vicinity of the school there was a disagreement between a student from our school and a boy who is not a student from our school. After that, as we were informed, a person close to the boy who is not a student from our school waited for the student from our school near the surrounding buildings and took him away in a vehicle. Thanks to the school's quick response, in communication with the parents, we came to know that the child is safe, at home," said Popović.

She added that upon learning of the incident, the school immediately notified the Security Center, which took over the actions within its jurisdiction.

"The boy is currently in the Security Center with his mother. Although the incident did not occur at school or in the schoolyard, the school strongly condemns this type of behavior by an adult, intimidation and inappropriate handling of situations. We hereby appeal to parents and the general public to resolve all potential misunderstandings and conflicts exclusively peacefully and in accordance with the law, without exposing children to situations that may endanger their safety. The school will continue to act in accordance with the instructions of the competent authorities, with the aim of protecting the safety of all students," Popović told "Vijesti".
