HL (41) from Prizren, Kosovo, was sentenced by the Basic Court in Ulcinj to one year and two months in prison for causing a fire on Solansko put in Ulcinjsko Polje on June 26 last year, when the fire engulfed the business premises of the company "Agris".
"The Basic Court in Ulcinj has issued a verdict finding the defendant HL (41) from Prizren (R. Kosovo) guilty and sentenced to one year and two months in prison for the criminal offense of serious offenses against public security under Article 338, paragraph 3, in conjunction with Article 327, paragraph 5 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro. By the same verdict, the defendant is obliged to compensate the injured parties for the damage caused," the press release of the Basic Court in Ulcinj states.
It is stated that the parties have the right to appeal against the aforementioned judgment within eight days from the date of receipt of the written copy of the judgment.
"The indictment charges the defendant with causing a fire in the Ulcinjsko Polje settlement by throwing a cigarette butt, which caused great material damage. When determining the sentence, the Court considered all the circumstances prescribed in Article 42 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro. As mitigating circumstances, the court took into account the personal and family circumstances of the defendant, namely the fact that he is married and the father of two minor children, as well as his lack of previous convictions. As an aggravating circumstance, the court considered the fact that the damage occurred in an amount that many times exceeds the amount necessary for the existence of the criminal offense in question," the statement reads.
