The Basic Court in Ulcinj has issued a verdict sentencing SM (32) from Ulcinj to one year and four months in prison for the criminal offense of assault on an official in the performance of official duty.
According to "Vijesti", the incident occurred on January 29th of this year.
"On Đerđa Kastriota Skenderbeg Boulevard, the defendant attacked an official - an authorized police officer of the Ulcinj Police Department and slightly injured him during the performance of his official duty by hitting him with a clenched fist of his left hand in the head in the area above the right ear. When determining the sentence, the court assessed all the circumstances that are relevant to the amount of the sentence, and found that the sentence imposed in this way will sufficiently influence the defendant not to commit criminal offenses in the future, especially those with elements of violence," the Basic Court in Ulcinj said in a statement.
It is added that such a prison sentence will also influence others not to commit criminal offenses.
"And express clear social condemnation of every form of this type of behavior, in which way the goals of both special and general prevention will be fully achieved," the statement reads.
The parties have the right to appeal against the aforementioned judgment within eight days from the date of receipt of the written copy of the judgment.
