UP: Report that Kljajević has weapons delivered by mail, search did not find any prohibited items

On June 3, a report was submitted to the Pljevlja police by mail stating that Democratic People's Party (DNP) councilor Dragiša Kljajević was in possession of illegal firearms, and a search of his house and vehicle did not find any items whose possession is prohibited or that require further criminal processing, the Police Directorate announced today.

The UP said this after DNP MP in the Parliament of Montenegro and member of the Committee on Security and Defense of the Parliament of Montenegro, Vladislav Bojović, said earlier today that Kljajević's house was searched because he signed "an initiative to annul the shameful decision on the recognition of the so-called Kosovo". Bojović also stated that the DNP is calling on "the Director of the Police Administration, Lazar Šćepanović, to come forward today and provide information about this obvious abuse of power by the police".

"Regarding the statement by MP Vladislav Bojović, reported in the media, in which allegations are made about the reasons for taking official measures and actions of the Police Directorate towards the person DK, and in order to fully and accurately inform the public and the members of the Security and Defense Committee, we consider it necessary to provide additional clarification of the circumstances of the specific event, so as to leave no room for misinterpretations or incomplete consideration of the facts. Namely, on June 3, 2026, a report was submitted to the Pljevlja Security Department by mail, stating that the person DK from Pljevlja possesses illegal firearms, namely a rifle and a pistol, and that his behavior may pose a danger to the safety of other persons," the UP statement states.

The institution added that, acting on the report, the police officers "in accordance with their legal powers and obligations, without delay took measures and actions within their jurisdiction and informed the competent state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Pljevlja of all the information they had learned."

"After consultations with the acting prosecutor and obtaining an order from the competent court, a search was carried out of the family home of the person DK in Đurđevića Tara, a residential building in Pljevlja, as well as the vehicle used by the said person. On that occasion, no objects were found whose possession was prohibited or for which further criminal processing was required, which was also reported to the competent state prosecutor," the statement reads.

The UP said that, in accordance with the Law on Internal Affairs, police work is carried out on the key principles of legality, professionalism, objectivity, impartiality and non-selectivity, and that the police act politically and ideologically neutrally.

"Accordingly, police officers are taking measures and actions in accordance with legal jurisdiction and authorities, as part of regular and preventive activities aimed at protecting the safety of citizens and preserving public order and peace," the UP said.
