Minister of Interior Danilo Šaranović warned that filing false reports is a criminal offense and said that the Police Directorate and the Ministry of Interior (MUP), in cooperation with the competent prosecutor's offices, will insist on determining responsibility and applying the maximum legally prescribed sanctions against all those who knowingly file false reports.
Regarding the increasingly frequent cases of filing reports that are determined to be false during the procedure, he reminded that the Police Directorate has a legal obligation to act on every report from citizens, every order from the competent prosecutor's office, and every court order.
"No one has the right to abuse institutions, waste their resources, burden the work of the police, prosecutors' offices and courts, or attempt to harm other people through false reports. Such behavior represents a direct blow to the legal order and citizens' trust in institutions," said Šaranović.
The Police Directorate and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he said, will pay special attention to such cases.
"In cooperation with the competent prosecutor's offices, we will insist on determining responsibility and applying the maximum legally prescribed sanctions against all those who knowingly file false reports," said Šaranović.
