Police officers arrested 57 drivers over the weekend, 43 of whom were for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, or for refusing to take a test, the Police Directorate announced.
It is stated that 40 traffic accidents were recorded on Montenegrin roads over the weekend, one of which was fatal.
It is added that five people were seriously injured and 14 were slightly injured.
"During the same period, traffic police officers, as part of repressive activities, filed 123 misdemeanor reports, issued 1.227 misdemeanor warrants, temporarily confiscated nine pairs of license plates, and removed the same number of vehicles from traffic," the statement said.
Police said a total of 57 drivers were arrested.
"Of which 30 were for driving under the influence of alcohol in the body at a concentration of more than one gram per kilogram or refusing to take a breathalyzer test, 13 for driving under the influence of drugs or other psychoactive substances or refusing to submit to testing," the statement added.
It is stated that 14 drivers were arrested for committing other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
Of the total number, the most drivers were arrested in Podgorica – 16, followed by eight in Bijelo Polje, six in Budva, and three each in Danilovgrad and Kotor.
"The Police Department once again appeals to all road users to respect traffic regulations and thus contribute to both their own safety and the safety of other road users," the statement said.
