Nikšić border police officers, acting on the order of the competent state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić, arrested Montenegrin citizen EM (58) and Serbian citizen MA (66), on suspicion of smuggling seven migrants from Bangladesh.
As they state, last night, while conducting surveillance in the expected areas of state border crossing and their further transit through Montenegro towards the countries of the European Union, at around 10:30 p.m. in the town of Miruše, near the border line with Bosnia and Herzegovina, border police officers checked two taxis.
"A check of two passenger motor vehicles driven by EM and MA revealed that there were seven people in the vehicles, citizens of Bangladesh, who did not possess identification documents or certificates of application for international protection on the territory of Montenegro. After collecting information from these persons and conducting criminal investigations, the acting state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić was informed of the incident, who ordered that EM and MA be deprived of their liberty on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and human smuggling, and that they be brought to the prosecutor's office for further investigation with a criminal report," the statement said.
As they add, EM and MA's personal documents, vehicles, as well as the funds taken for the transportation of the above-mentioned persons, citizens of Bangladesh, were temporarily seized from them, by order of the acting state prosecutor.
