Swiss citizen suspected of smuggling has his detention extended for another three months

The Council of the Supreme Court of Montenegro extended the detention of Swiss citizen Cicurel Didier Alain for another three months, until September 13th.

As announced by that court, the panel was deciding on the proposal of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Kotor dated June 04, 2026.

The defendant's detention was reportedly extended due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of smuggling.

"According to the allegations in the investigation order and the case files, the defendant DCA is reasonably suspected of having transported goods across the customs line, avoiding customs control measures, as well as goods whose circulation is restricted or prohibited, on March 13, 2026, upon arrival by flight from Istanbul to Tivat airport," the statement states.

According to the Supreme Court statement, after he declared at the airport that he had nothing to declare, during a detailed inspection of his luggage and clothing, customs and police officers found a large quantity of undeclared luxury goods, including Rolex and Patek Philippe watches, Bvlgari, Cartier and Chopard jewelry, luxury clothing and footwear by Stefano Ricci, Loro Piana and Louis Vuitton, as well as various types of handbags.

"The exact value of all seized items will be determined in the further course of the proceedings. Money in the amount of 26.915 euros and 3.880 Turkish liras was also temporarily seized from the defendant. The Supreme Court extended the defendant's detention due to the risk of flight and the risk of repeating the criminal offense. The court took into account in particular the fact that the defendant is a foreign citizen with developed connections outside Montenegro, as well as information obtained through international police cooperation indicating his previous convictions and the conduct of other proceedings against him abroad," it states.

The Supreme Court added that the defendant's detention was initially ordered by a decision of the investigative judge of the Basic Court in Kotor dated March 16, 2026, and extended by a decision of the Criminal Chamber of that court dated April 08, 2026.

"According to this decision of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, detention may last until September 13, 2026," it concludes.
