The civic movement URA announced that it condemns the orchestrated attacks on journalist Jelena Jovanović, calling on the competent state authorities to demonstrate that such examples must no longer be a practice that will characterize the Montenegrin social environment.
"The neglect of this behavior by those in charge has resulted in only encouraging deviant behavior, to the point that today social networks have become a playground for verbal violence without the perpetrators of these crimes suffering any legal consequences," the URA pointed out.
According to them, a cowardly series of attacks with the clear aim of belittling, discrediting and silencing free journalistic thought by parapolitical and criminal elites must not go unpunished.
The URA Police Department emphasizes that the crackdown on journalists is a threat to the democratic postulates of society and that their intimidation, although a phenomenon present in society for decades, must be met with clear resistance from all well-intentioned public officials and institutions of the system.
"URA stands in solidarity with journalist Jelena Jovanović and encourages her to continue to be an example of professionalism and courage, pointing the finger at all the anomalies and problems that afflict Montenegro and its citizens," concluded the Civic Movement URA.
