Marković: Vešović did not hit Brković, nor was he hiding or running from the police

Mišo Vešović did not hit the councilor in the Capital City Assembly, Milivoje Brković, nor was he hiding or running from the police in recent days, his defense attorney, attorney Velibor Marković, told "Vijesti" today.

Vešović was arrested today. The Police Directorate (UP) stated in a statement that Vešović is an operationally interesting person and that he is one of the suspects in the attack on Brković.

The UP previously announced that they had identified Tomislav Šćepanović and Vešović as suspects in the attack on Brković and that a national search had been launched for them.

Brković was beaten on June 2nd.

"A national arrest warrant, or search, has not been issued for Miša Vešović because he was not on the run, hiding, or unavailable to the competent authorities. Today, the police rang the doorbell of the apartment where he was with his family, wife, and minor child," Marković told "Vijesti".

He added that the incident for which Vešović was arrested today occurred seven or eight days ago and that since that day, no one has been looking for Vešović at the address where he lives.

"No one contacted him on his mobile phone number, and the police did not come to the house where his father lives, nor to the house where his mother lives. So, this is disinformation that he was on the run and inaccessible to state authorities, and it is also false that he and Tomislav Šćepanović had any problems with a female person," said Marković.

The lawyer states that Šćepanović and the girl, whom according to some media outlets Brković was defending, knew each other from before, that they exchanged text messages that evening, driving in parallel in two lanes, side by side, and that they stopped to talk at the first intersection.

Marković claims that while the two of them were talking, a jeep drove up and two men got out - Brković and Pivljanin.

"My power-giver (Vešović) and Brković have known each other for a long time, they approach each other when they meet, hold out their hands and kiss. So, there is no conflict. However, at one point, Pivljanin tells the girl who was talking to Šćepanović 'you are my sister', and after Šćepanović asks what your sister is like, she replies 'our Serbian sister'. This is where an exchange of glances between Pivljanin and Šćepanović occurs, and then the conflict," said Marković.

He claims that Vešović did not hit Brković, nor did he have a conflict with anyone, but rather that he persistently tried to calm the situation.

"By saying 'go away, people, what's the matter, what's the point of arguing...' He also tried to get Pivljanin into their car so they could continue driving... The situation is completely different than what was presented to the public - the fact is that my authority figure did not hit anyone or threaten anyone, but was just trying to calm the situation and somehow persuade these two to continue in their vehicle. It is especially untrue that he was on the run," said Marković.

Vešović is being questioned tonight at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office (ODT) in Podgorica.
