Searches in Berane and Rožaje, marijuana and 286 opiate pills seized

Police officers, while conducting traffic controls and searches in Berane and Rožaje, seized marijuana and 286 pills from the list of narcotic drugs, the Police Directorate announced.

As they said, in coordinated actions carried out in those two municipalities, with a special focus on preventing street distribution of narcotics, two people were arrested, while searches and controls found and seized objects and substances suspected of being related to the commission of criminal offenses and misdemeanors in the field of drug abuse.

"Acting according to planned activities, police officers searched the premises used by IK (59) from Rožaje. On that occasion, an electric shocker and 273 tablets on the list of opiates were found and confiscated. Also, during the search of the premises used by AK (48) from Rožaje, a metal box was found, as well as 13 tablets on the list of narcotic drugs. Due to suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of unauthorized production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs, IK was deprived of his liberty and, with a criminal report, will be taken to the competent state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje. In relation to the tablets found with AK, the acting prosecutor will subsequently declare the legal qualification of the event," they said.

They added that police officers also searched the apartment and other premises used by AK (50), also from Rožaje, during which a PVC package containing plant matter suspected to be the narcotic drug marijuana was found.

"The competent state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje was informed about the incident, who stated that in this specific case there are no elements of a criminal offense, but that it is a violation of the Law on the Prevention of Drug Abuse, and a request to initiate misdemeanor proceedings will be filed against this person within the legal deadline. Also, officers of the Regional Security Center 'North' inspected a passenger motor vehicle driven by DP (29) from Podgorica in Berane. During the inspection, a grinder, hand-made joints, as well as a PVC bag with a certain amount of plant matter suspected of being the narcotic drug marijuana were found," the statement said.

They add that they suspect that DP enabled a female passenger to consume narcotics.

"The competent state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Berane was informed of the event, who stated that in this specific case the elements of the criminal offense of facilitating the consumption of narcotic drugs are met, and criminal charges will be filed against DP in regular proceedings. DP was deprived of his liberty for driving a vehicle under the influence of psychoactive substances and, with a request to initiate misdemeanor proceedings, he will be brought before the competent misdemeanor judge," the Police Directorate said.
