The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Pljevlja dismissed the criminal charges filed against employees of the Public Institution "Stevan Samardžić" National Library. Danko Radovanović i Milija Knežević in the case of the reported disappearance of 1.828 books from the children's department of this institution, with the explanation that there is no reasonable suspicion that they committed the criminal offense they were charged with.
Director of the "Stevan Samardžić" Library Bojana Đacic Last year, it informed the public that an audit of the library's holdings in the Children's Department showed that as many as 1.828 books were missing.
As she emphasized, these are serious irregularities that threaten the reputation of the Library and cause material damage, which is why disciplinary proceedings have been initiated and criminal charges have been filed against those responsible.
Following the prosecutor's decision, Radovanović announced that he had been publicly accused for months of the books' disappearance, emphasizing that "the truth has finally received its official epilogue."
"All those who have condemned me in advance should assess their own responsibility. Sometimes the loudest accusation is the one for which there is no evidence," said Radovanović.
He announced that, in order to protect his honor, reputation, and personal rights, he would initiate appropriate legal proceedings against persons who, as he claims, made untrue and defamatory claims against him without factual or legal basis.
His colleague Milija Knežević also says that from the beginning he claimed that he was not responsible for the alleged disappearance of the books.
According to him, he and Radovanović were exposed to various condemnations, comments and unfounded accusations over a long period of time, and the consequences of such claims were also felt by their family members.
Knežević emphasized that he had performed his job responsibly, conscientiously and professionally since the beginning of his employment, and announced that he would seek protection of his rights, honor and reputation before the competent court.
"I believe in the institutions of the system, the rule of law and the power of truth, which in this case has received its official confirmation," said Knežević.
Radovanović is a member of the Library Council from among the employees and a member of the Trade Union of the Public Institution "Stevan Samardžić" Pljevlja, while Knežević is employed at that institution and also a member of the trade union.
