Montenegrin border guards arrested DD (49), an Azerbaijani citizen who is wanted by Interpol Baku on an international arrest warrant, at the Šćepan Polje border crossing.
The Police Directorate announced that DD was arrested in cooperation with Interpol Podgorica.
It is alleged that Border Police officers at the Šćepan Polje Border Crossing checked DD, who was a passenger in a Renault passenger vehicle.
It is added that by entering DD's data into electronic records, it was determined that he had an Interpol red notice issued for him by the NCB Interpol Baku - Azerbaijan.
"In communication with NCB Interpol Podgorica, it was confirmed that the arrest warrant is in effect, and that it was issued for the criminal offense that DD is suspected of having committed in his country - participation in a traffic accident in which a person was killed, under the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan," the statement said.
It is emphasized that DD was arrested and taken to the Podgorica Security Department.
"He was brought before the investigating judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica last night, who ordered his extradition detention. Communication between the competent authorities of Montenegro and Azerbaijan is ongoing, with a view to DD's extradition," the statement said.
