Five people have died in four traffic accidents in Montenegro in the last three days, and the Police Directorate has appealed to drivers to respect traffic regulations and contribute to reducing the number of road fatalities through responsible behavior.
Head of the Road Traffic Safety Department, Ilija Janjušević, said that two foreign citizens were among the victims, one of whom was the motorcycle driver and the other a passenger.
"I appeal to all road users to comply with traffic regulations and in this way help us improve the traffic situation," said Janjušević.
He especially called on parents and families to influence children and young drivers, pointing out to them the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and psychoactive substances, as well as operating vehicles with greater power.
Janjušević also called on everyone in society, including all state bodies, to make additional efforts to improve the traffic situation, adding that the Police Directorate will certainly do everything in its power.
Janjušević stated that this year the number of deaths is significantly higher than in the same period last year, although the number of traffic accidents is approximately the same, the consequences are more severe.
According to him, one of the main reasons for the serious consequences is not wearing a seat belt.
"The latest example is the traffic accident on Zlatica, where the driver, precisely because he was not wearing a seat belt, fell out of the vehicle and was killed," said Janjušević.
He said that the police will continue preventive activities, stating that their goal is not sanctions, but the safety of citizens.

He added that despite the fact that there are 40 percent more drivers sanctioned this year, there is a significant increase in traffic accidents with fatalities.
This, as he pointed out, shows that even all the activities undertaken by the Police Directorate officers are not sufficient to prevent accidents from occurring in certain cases.
Janjušević also warned that June, July and August are months of increased traffic frequency due to the tourist season, but also a period when, unfortunately, a higher number of traffic fatalities are recorded.
