Podgorica police arrested IG and KM on suspicion of illegally trading tobacco products, the Police Directorate (UP) announced today.
"Police officers of the Podgorica Security Department have undertaken activities aimed at combating the grey economy, illicit trade in excise goods and other forms of economic crime, and, on the order of the competent state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, have deprived two persons of their liberty on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of illicit trade. 2.051 packs of cigarettes of various brands, 93 handmade tobacco cigarettes and 40 boxes of cigarette filters were seized," the statement states.
The Police Department added that Podgorica police officers searched the apartment and business premises - a retail facility used by IG in Podgorica.
"On that occasion, 144 packs of cigarettes of various brands were found and seized, without proper documentation, which are suspected to have been intended for further illegal sale," the statement reads.
The UP said that police officers also searched the house, auxiliary facilities and vehicles used by KM in the Zeta area.
"During the search, 1.907 packs of cigarettes of various brands, 93 handmade tobacco cigarettes, as well as 40 boxes of cigarette filters were found and seized, for which the person did not have the necessary documentation. After conducting police and prosecutorial activities and collecting information, by order of the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, IG and KM were deprived of liberty on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of illicit trade," the UP said.
