Smailović: A society on the verge of joining the EU must have zero tolerance towards genocide denial

The head of the Bosniak Party's parliamentary club, Amer Smailović, said that he welcomes the decision of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office (VDT) to initiate proceedings against "Adria TV" for broadcasting the shameful film "Srebrenica - Anatomy of a Deception", which, as he stated, already in the title itself denies or significantly reduces the gravity of the criminal act of genocide committed in Srebrenica and established by a final verdict of the International Criminal Court.

He recalled that immediately after the broadcast of this show, the Bosniak Party MPs' Club sent appropriate initiatives to the Prosecutor's Office and the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services in order, as he added, to institutionally protect society from the promotion of war crimes and criminals, the denial of the genocide in Srebrenica and the judicially established truth.

Smailović simultaneously expressed his protest and regret that the prosecution did not find elements of the criminal offense of inciting national, racial and religious hatred in the broadcast of this film.

"Anyone who has the intention to protect the goods protected by Article 370 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro, which is the dignity of victims and their families, public order and peace and social cohesion, equality and protection from discrimination, democratic and constitutional order, historical truth established by court rulings, international law and basic civilizational values, without any dilemma in the title itself, but also in the content of the show, recognizes the intention to present the genocide in Srebrenica, conclusively proven before an international court, as a well-designed deception, thereby denying it or, at the very least, significantly reducing its gravity," said the BS MP.

He said that a society on the verge of joining the EU must leave no doubt that the level of tolerance for the denial of genocide and the glorification of crimes and war criminals is zero.

"In this context, we expect the prosecution to once again consider whether the broadcast of the film 'Srebrenica - Anatomy of a Deception' contains elements of the aforementioned criminal offense, and to act in the same way in the case of the rebroadcast of the New Year's TV Informer show on Adria TV, during which eulogies and heroic songs about convicted war criminals were broadcast," concluded Smailović.
