Montenegrin police officers with colleagues from partner countries in joint patrols in the southern region

Uniformed police officers and criminal police officers from eight countries will, from July 1 to September 1, together with police officers of the Montenegrin Police Directorate, perform police duties and tasks, providing support to the Regional Security Center "South" and the associated security departments in coastal municipalities.

For the 16th year in a row, the Police Directorate has been implementing the "Safe Tourist Season" project with partner police organizations from the region and European countries.

This type of cooperation is implemented in accordance with the Protocol on Cooperation during the 2026 Tourist Season, which envisages the engagement of 75 police officers from eight partner countries during the summer tourist season.

"During the summer tourist season in the coastal municipalities of Montenegro, together with officers of the Police Directorate, police work and tasks will be performed by police officers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Croatia, North Macedonia, Italy, Romania and Kosovo, providing support in maintaining a stable security environment and the safety of citizens and tourists," the police announced.

They said that the engagement of foreign police officers aims to improve security during the tourist season, strengthen police presence at the most frequented tourist locations, act more efficiently in situations that require communication with foreign citizens, as well as provide assistance to tourists coming from countries from which police officers are participating in the project.

Their presence, they said, contributes to faster exchange of information, better coordination with home police organizations, and more efficient resolution of potential security challenges that may arise during the summer tourist season.

For the first time this year, in accordance with an international agreement, police officers from Bosnia and Herzegovina will be engaged within the project, who will be deployed in Bar and Herceg Novi.

At the same time, based on the cooperation agreement with Croatia, which is implemented on the principle of reciprocity, the Police Directorate has sent six of its police officers from the ranks of the uniformed and criminal police to the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Directorate. The deployment will be implemented in three rotations, lasting 20 days each, in the period from July 1 to August 28.

"During the summer tourist season, police officers will, in joint patrols with officers of the Police Administration of Montenegro, contribute to maintaining a stable security environment, protecting the personal and property security of citizens and tourists, as well as providing assistance and information to their fellow citizens during their stay in Montenegro. Contact with these police officers will be possible through the duty services of the Police Administration and security departments in coastal municipalities, by calling the toll-free number 122," the statement added.

The implementation of the "Safe Tourist Season" project further improves international police cooperation, strengthens mutual trust between police organizations, contributes to greater security for citizens and tourists, and confirms Montenegro's commitment to being a safe and reliable tourist destination, the police say.
