Šaranović and Šćepanović with the district attorney in New York

Minister of Internal Affairs Danilo Šaranović and Director of the Police Administration Lazar Šćepanović paid an official visit to the United States of America and held several important bilateral meetings on the topic of the fight against crime and the rule of law.

As announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, one of the most important meetings Šaranović and Šćepanović held was with the District Attorney of the State of New York, Michael McMahon.

"The meeting discussed the cooperation between the two countries so far in the fight against all forms of crime, with a focus on organized crime and current security challenges. The American prosecutor provided strong support to Šaranović and Šćepanović, emphasizing that the results achieved by the Ministry of Interior and the Special State Prosecutor's Office in suppressing the activities of organized crime groups are extraordinary and that they would be respectable for incomparably larger security systems than ours. Intensive police and prosecutorial activities and strong international operational cooperation, as well as international legal assistance from the United States in criminal investigations, will guarantee even stronger results in the fight against organized crime in the coming period," it was announced.

During their meeting with McMahon, Šaranović and Šćepanović stressed the importance of operational cooperation with US services, the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), which is at an extraordinary level, and expressed gratitude for the contribution they make in our fight against crime and the valuable donations of modern means and equipment through cooperation with the ICITAP and INL programs.

"The interlocutors agree that the implementation of criminal court proceedings must be faster in order for the fight against crime to be efficient and fully comprehensive," the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.
