Traffic police officers will conduct increased checks on all busy roads during the holidays, the Police Directorate announced, appealing to drivers to respect traffic regulations.
The police said that special emphasis will be placed on detecting and sanctioning the most serious traffic violations.
"On the occasion of the upcoming celebration of July 13, the Statehood Day of Montenegro, and the increased traffic intensity during the weekend and holidays, the Police Directorate appeals to citizens to refrain from excessive alcohol consumption and any other behavior that could endanger their own safety and the safety of their family members, friends and other citizens," the statement says.
The police said that occasional traffic jams and difficult traffic flow are expected on some roads, due to the increased frequency of traffic towards tourist centers in the south and north and the increased traffic intensity due to weekends, holidays and the tourist season.
"Driver fatigue, inattention and failure to comply with traffic regulations continue to be the most common causes of traffic accidents," the police warned.
The police therefore appeal to all road users to plan their journeys in advance, to adapt their driving to road and weather conditions, to respect traffic regulations and to contribute to the safety of all road users through patient, responsible and conscientious behavior.
"During the holidays, traffic police officers will conduct increased checks on all busy road routes, with a special emphasis on detecting and sanctioning the most serious traffic violations," the statement said.
It is stated that vehicles for controlling and recording traffic violations - interceptors - will also be deployed in traffic control.
Special attention, as the police said, will be focused on exceeding the speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, as well as other forms of risky traffic behavior.
"The Police Directorate will, through an increased presence of police officers in the field, take all measures and actions within its jurisdiction in order to maintain stable public order and peace before, during and after the holidays, ensure safe and unhindered road traffic, prevent the commission of criminal offenses and misdemeanors, and protect the personal and property safety of citizens and tourists," the statement said.
The police called on all citizens to spend the holiday with dignity and responsibility, with mutual respect and compliance with the law, so that the upcoming holidays will pass safely and in a peaceful atmosphere.
