The pre-trial judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade has ordered extradition detention for Montenegrin citizen Vuk Vulević, who was arrested in Belgrade on an international Interpol warrant issued by Podgorica, it was confirmed to the Nova.rs portal.
According to this decision, Vulević's detention may last no longer than until the extradition decision is executed, but no longer than one year from the date of detention, it was confirmed for Nova.rs.
Although detention can last up to a year, after every two months from the date the decision ordering detention becomes final, the judge will examine whether there are reasons for the continued duration of detention.
His detention was ordered due to circumstances indicating that Vuk Vulević will hide or flee in order to obstruct the decision-making process on the letter of request, or the implementation of the extradition procedure.
This decision may be appealed within three days.
Fugitive Beranec Vuk Vulević was arrested the day before yesterday in Belgrade, as officially confirmed to "Vijesti" by the Director of the Police Administration (UP) Lazar Šćepanović.
Šćepanović also said at the time that Vulević was deprived of his liberty based on an arrest warrant issued for him by Montenegro.
The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) officially announced the day before yesterday that members of the MUP, the Criminal Police Directorate, the Special Actions Department and the Belgrade City Police Directorate, Intervention Unit 92, arrested Vulević in a catering facility in Belgrade.
The Serbian Ministry of Interior stated at the time that Vulević was a citizen of Montenegro and Serbia, and that an Interpol red notice had been issued for him.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro for Security, Defense, Fight against Crime and Internal Policy and leader of Democratic Montenegro Aleksa Bečić said the day before yesterday regarding the arrest of Vulević that it was "another great news for the security sector and the rule of law in Montenegro", and that "almost no week goes by without us detaining significant fugitives from justice".
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Montenegro and Bečić's party colleague Danilo Šaranović said yesterday that Vulević's arrest was the result of professional and coordinated work by the Police Directorate of Montenegro and the Police Directorate of the Republic of Serbia.
Following the statements by Bečić and Šaranović, the Serbian Ministry of the Interior announced that the operation to arrest Vulević on the territory of Serbia, acting in accordance with the law and jurisdiction, was carried out by members of the Criminal Police Directorate, the Special Actions Department and the Belgrade City Police Directorate - Intervention Unit 92.
They pointed out at the time that "international police cooperation, action on international arrest warrants and exchange of information with partner services represent a regular and significant segment of the fight against organized crime."
"However, for the sake of accurately informing the public, it is necessary to clearly distinguish international cooperation from operational work that directly led to the location, planning and implementation of a specific arrest," the Serbian Ministry of the Interior said yesterday.
The Ministry of Justice of Montenegro announced yesterday that it is understood that the extradition procedure of Vuk Vulević to Montenegro is underway before the competent judicial authorities of Serbia.
