Srdjan Popovic shot Dalibor Djuric with a sniper rifle from a distance of 204 meters, then swam across the Zeta River and left the weapon to burn in an arson attack, according to the indictment of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) against the three-member team accused of the crime in the prison compound.
Đurić was liquidated while he was walking as a convict through the Semi-Open Department of the then Institute for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions (ZIKS) in, as stated by the SDT, a war of criminal clans, out of ruthless revenge and in order to establish dominance.
The same document states that Boban Milić was with Popović while he was shooting, as a backup sniper in case the latter missed.
The Podgorica High Court confirmed the indictment against Milić, Popović and Cetinje resident Nenad Nen Kaluđerović at the end of June, due to reasonable suspicion that they committed the crime of creating a criminal organization. The first two are also charged with aggravated murder, and Kaluđerović with aggravated murder by aiding and abetting.
The document states that, during September 2016, Milić showed Popović the area near the then ZIKS in order to find suitable places to place sniper rifles, bearing in mind that the latter was unfamiliar with the area, given that he was from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It is explained that after finding a suitable place, on September 22, 2016, they swam together across the Zeta River and reached the steep riverbed in the forest behind the building of the Penitentiary in Spuž, which housed an improvised gym, and brought two sniper rifles:
"The defendant Popović used a repeating rifle with an optical sight that was manually assembled from parts of at least two weapons, one rifle with a repeating mechanism and a barrel that belonged to a 7,9 mm machine gun, on which the factory numbers on the rifle's head were destroyed, and the defendant Milić used a sniper rifle of unknown make and caliber in order to shoot the injured party Đurić as a backup sniper in case the defendant Popović missed him, at which point, 204 meters from the pavilion, they jointly set up a black metal 'bipod' stand, set up an ambush and waited for the injured party Đurić to go for a walk in the semi-open department of the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, so that at the moment when the injured party was walking, the defendant Popović fired a projectile from the repeating rifle... which hit the injured party Đurić, causing him a gunshot wound to the chest... resulting in the injured party's death," the indictment signed by special prosecutor Zoran Vučinić.
It says that both men then fled the scene, swimming across the Zeta River again and heading off in an unknown direction.
That's when Dejan Pavićević and Miloš Trbo reportedly stepped into the picture. The two were convicted in early 2020 for their participation in the crime - Pavićević received 18 years in prison and Trbo 16 years.
The new indictment reminds us that the two of them came to Podgorica in Pavićević's "Golf", that they turned off their mobile phones so that their further movements could not be determined, after which they headed to the town of Rogame...
They used a hammer to break the rear windshield of the Škoda Octavia, in which, after the murder, Popović and Milić left the rifle with which Đurić was killed:
"Then they poured gasoline into the vehicle's cabin and threw several burning packages of Hepo cubes, causing a fire in the vehicle in order to destroy all material evidence of the crime committed and enable the defendants SP and BM to leave unhindered in an unknown direction," the prosecutor's office states.
According to the Special State Prosecutor's Office, Kaluđerović's task was to prepare the implementation of the criminal plan by enabling the direct perpetrators to practice shooting firearms, as well as to use chemical agents to remove biological and other traces from weapons.
Kaluđerović has been unavailable to Montenegrin investigators since April 2023, who are searching for him on suspicion that he is part of a criminal group responsible for the double murder in Spuž on October 14, 2020. A warrant has also been issued for Milić...
The prosecution alleges that Kaluđerović assisted SP in the implementation of the plan by providing him with the sniper rifle with which, according to the indictment, Dalibor Đurić was murdered, enabling shooting practice, and removing biological traces from the prepared rifle.
"... Wherein the defendant NK, in the process of implementing the criminal plan, by making the perpetrator available to the means for committing the criminal offense, creating the conditions for committing the criminal offense and concealing the traces of the criminal offense, intentionally assisted the defendant SP in committing the criminal offense, by making a sniper rifle available to the defendant SP to take the life of the injured party D. Đ. and at an unspecified location on the territory of Montenegro, allowing the defendant SP to practice shooting with a sniper rifle in order to achieve an accurate hit and by using chemical agents, removed the biological traces of the defendant SP from the prepared sniper rifle so that he would not be detected...", states the prosecutor's text.
Wedding and getting ready for prison
Vijesti” published a correspondence from the Sky application a year ago, during which Kaluđerović told Slobodan Kašćelan that Dalibor Đurić's killer would have been in prison if he had not cleaned his gun properly after the crime.
The two of them have intense communication on that once-protected telephone program.
The Cetinje native addresses the murderer of the then imprisoned Đurić as Svat, and he communicated about this with one of the leaders of the Kavač clan on January 20, 2021.
From their correspondence it emerges that they call Đurić Gero ćopavi, but also that the same person who committed the murder also liquidated one of the Đuričkovićs.
Popović, a resident of Banja Luka, was recently sentenced to 15 years and 10 months in prison for intentionally killing Goran Đuričković on the Budva promenade.
That day, Kašćelan and Kaluđerović corresponded in codes, so they couldn't tell which person they were talking about...
"So do you know who the guy who was training in the mountains killed? He killed Gero the lame and Đuričković," Kašćelan explains to him.
Kaluđerović reminds him that he is not thinking of that murderer, but of another one.
"No, brother, you didn't come with him, he came with the Italian. You and Munja were there. I know about Svat, we were preparing him for prison, I was cleaning the gun, if I hadn't sprayed it like that - he would have fallen," writes Kaluđerović.
