The President of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje, Petar Smolović, confirmed to "Vijesti" that offensive graffiti in the Pruška neighborhood had been painted over.
The private owner of the building painted over the sign himself.
Smolović condemned the appearance of graffiti that read "Serbs on willows".
"Regarding the graffiti with a message of hate that appeared in Bijelo Polje, which we condemn in the strongest terms, I will schedule a meeting of the municipal president to coordinate the urgent removal of that content and take all measures within our jurisdiction," he said earlier.
He said that Bijelo Polje is a city of peace, coexistence and mutual respect. "Messages that incite national or any other hatred are not the values of our city and will not damage the relationships that our citizens have been building together for decades," said Smolović.
The first person of the Municipality called on the competent authorities to determine the responsibility of the perpetrators, and all citizens not to fall for provocations.
"Our obligation is to preserve peace, dignity and tolerance, because these are precisely the values for which Bijelo Polje is recognized. It is obvious that someone is bothering peace, stability and progress in Bijelo Polje," he concluded.
