53 bus drivers were sanctioned

Officers of the Regional Security Center "South" simultaneously carried out the "Bus" operation in Herceg Novi, Tivat, Kotor, Budva and Bar over the weekend, controlling 83 vehicles.

53 bus drivers were sanctioned, and one had his memory card confiscated.

"Traffic police officers in these five cities checked a total of 83 buses and the same number of drivers who were driving them. Of that number, 53 drivers were found to be in violation of the Road Traffic Safety Act, in connection with which 33 misdemeanor warrants were issued and 20 misdemeanor reports were filed. A memory card was seized from one bus driver to verify the authenticity of the entered data," the Police Directorate announced.

They remind that the action is carried out periodically, continuously, in order to primarily take preventive, and if necessary, repressive, action against violations committed by bus drivers.

The aim of the "Bus" operation is to increase the level of safety in public passenger transport, control compliance with regulations on drivers' working hours and mandatory breaks, control the proper use of tachographs and recording driving time, check the technical condition of buses, as well as control possible overloaded vehicles, unregistered or illegal transport of passengers and other violations that may endanger road traffic safety, the police point out.

The increased controls carried out by the police during the summer tourist season are, as they said, planned and implemented to protect the safety of all citizens and tourists in traffic, in order to reduce the risks posed by traffic participants, "which are the cause of traffic accidents with the most serious consequences."

"By behaving responsibly in traffic, resting before longer journeys, adjusting vehicle speed to road conditions and compliance with all traffic regulations, we are jointly contributing to the safety of public transport and the preservation of human lives," the statement reads.
