Lawyer Damir Lekić was arrested on the orders of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), Vijesti has learned.
He is charged with the crime of money laundering.
Lekić was arrested by officers of the Special Police Department (SPO), who also searched his apartment.
Lawyer Damir Lekić was detained last night when he attempted to enter Montenegro from Serbia at the Dobrakovo border crossing.
He did not report to the police that he was carrying cash while crossing the border.
During the search, border police officers found money that he said was his, but that he had previously brought into Serbia from Montenegro.
Special prosecutor and SDT spokesperson Vukas Radonjić told "Vijesti" that Lekić was ordered to be detained for up to 72 hours.
"On the order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the Special Police Department deprived DL, a lawyer from P., of his liberty due to suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of money laundering in the amount of 100.000 euros, which the police temporarily seized from him," Radonjić told "Vijesti".
Lekić was questioned as a suspect, and the special prosecutor, in addition to ordering detention for up to 72 hours, proposed to the investigating judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica that Lekić be ordered to impose supervision measures, such as a ban on leaving the apartment and a ban on meeting with certain persons, with the threat of detention in case of violation, Radonjić said.
"Also, by issuing an order to conduct an investigation, criminal proceedings have been initiated against the now-defendant," he added.
In collecting evidence of the crime, the SDT and SPO were assisted by the Border Police Sector of the Police Directorate and the National Security Agency.
Over the past ten years, Damir Lekić has been recognized as a lawyer who has mainly represented members of the Škalja clan.
