Bijelo Polje: Police used a drone to detect a person lighting a fire outdoors

In the village of Njegnjevo in Bijelo Polje, the police detected a person burning dry hay in his orchard.

As announced by the Police Directorate, the fire was detected using drones, and a police officer warned through the loudspeaker on the drone to immediately extinguish the fire, which was done.

"After the incident was reported, a fire brigade was dispatched to the scene, where they found M. Š. (45) from Bijelo Polje, residing in Podgorica, in the orchard, who had previously set fire to piles of dry hay between plum trees. The firefighters conducted an inspection and determined that the fire was completely extinguished, that the situation was under control and that there was no danger of it spreading further, which is why there was no need for their intervention," the police announced.

Information on the circumstances of the event was collected from M.Š. in the official premises of the Bijelo Polje Security Department.

"The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje was informed of all the established facts, who, after reviewing the collected files, stated that in this specific case there are no elements of a criminal offense for which prosecution is being undertaken ex officio. The duty officer of the Municipal Police was also informed of the event by telephone, in order to possibly take measures and actions within their jurisdiction," the statement reads.

The police point out that this event demonstrates the justification for continuous aerial surveillance, which enables timely detection of fire sources and rapid response, especially in conditions of increased risk of fire outbreak and spread.

The Police Directorate appeals to citizens to refrain from lighting fires in open spaces and to act responsibly and in accordance with prescribed fire protection measures in order to prevent fires and endangering human life, property and the environment.
