Young man stabbed in Nikšić, suspect arrested

Nikšić police arrested AB (42) on suspicion of stabbing DN (35) near the Sports Center in Nikšić, a police source confirmed to Television Vijesti.

The Nikšić General Hospital told Television Vijesti that the young man was admitted with stab wounds to the chest, but that he is in stable condition and is in intensive care.

The Police Directorate (PD) officially announced that, on the orders of the State Prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, Nikšić police officers arrested AB (42) from Nikšić, a multiple repeat offender in the commission of criminal offenses against life and limb and against sexual freedom, on suspicion of attempting to kill a fellow citizen.

"The Nikšić Security Department's duty service was informed by citizens today, August 15, 2026, at around 7:00 p.m., that a fight had broken out between two people near the Sports Center in Nikšić. Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found several people and collected information from them. On that occasion, it was determined that a fight had broken out between AB (42) and DN (35), both from Nikšić, and that AB is suspected of using a knife to inflict multiple stab wounds on DN, after which he fled in an unknown direction," the statement said.

The Police Department added that police officers located AB and brought him to the official premises of the Nikšić Security Department.

"A knife was found on him during the search, which was seized and will be the subject of further expert examination. DN went to the Nikšić General Hospital for medical assistance, where he was diagnosed with serious physical injuries in the form of a lung injury. After collecting information, and by order of the state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, AB was deprived of liberty on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of attempted murder and will be brought, with a criminal report, to the competent state prosecutor's office within the legal deadline," the UP statement reads.
