Traffic police officers have already registered several traffic violations at locations throughout Montenegro today, using new modern radar devices for speed control. Violators will receive notifications about the violation they committed at their home addresses in the coming days, the Police Directorate announced.

The police remind that modern radar speed control devices have recently been put into use at various locations throughout Montenegro, in order to improve traffic safety and more efficient surveillance of road users.

"The new radar control system allows for the automatic registration of speeding, without the need for a police officer to be directly involved at the location where the radar control is being carried out and without stopping the vehicle. The radar independently detects the speed of the vehicle, registers the speeding and records the violation, while authorized police officers have access to the data registered by the system via an online connection. In this way, police officers do not have to be directly present at the radar device," the police statement states.

It is added that radar control is carried out using modern radar devices so that the violation is recorded and documented with photographs and video.

"Whereas the system registers vehicle data, including license plates, make and type of vehicle, as well as data on detected speeding. Drivers are not able to spot the radar on a certain section of the road, nor, after exceeding the permitted speed, do they have the opportunity to avoid recording the violation," the statement reads.

The police explained that the driver is notified of the recorded violation directly by the police patrol or by delivering a notice to the driver's home address, or the vehicle owner. If the vehicle owner was not driving the vehicle at the time of the violation, he is obliged, within eight days, to inform the authorized police officer of the identity of the person who was driving the vehicle, in the manner prescribed by applicable regulations.

"By introducing new radar systems, the traffic police are raising the level of control on the roads and further narrowing the space for reckless driver behavior. The goal is not only to detect and sanction violations, but above all to take preventive action, reduce the number of traffic accidents with the most serious consequences and create a safer traffic environment," the statement concludes.
