These are the ugliest cars in the world

Arguing tastes is thankless, but when it comes to automotive design, opinions often sway one way or the other. The world of four-wheelers remembers numerous models that failed in terms of appearance, no matter how good they were under the sheet metal, and that is still the case today.

We highlight ten creations of the modern age that will surely be remembered as design or conceptual failures, but which can still be encountered on the roads because some people like their uniqueness.

Fiat multiple

According to many polls, specialist magazines and the automotive public in general, Fiat's six-seater minivan based on the lock model is the world's ugliest car of all time. When the Italians announced it, they said that they were preparing a car for six passengers in two rows of seats that would be as long as a lock, as wide as a chain cap and as tall as a scudo. Already from that announcement, you could sense that something totally wacky was coming. And so it was. The car had a characteristic "duck beak" and headlights in three rows from the windshield to the bumper.

Be that as it may, Fiat should be congratulated for its courage, because hardly anyone would dare to stand in front of this car at an official promotion, let alone let it go on the roads. Finally, the multiple was thoroughly redesigned in 2004, because until then it was doing well only in Italy. Nevertheless, in 1999, this car was exhibited at the MOMA Museum of Modern Art in New York as part of the "Different Roads, Cars of the Next Century" exhibition.

Sangjong Rhodius

The South Korean manufacturer, which is known for traditionally cooperating with Mercedes in terms of powertrains, had bright examples in its range, but also completely incredible models such as the first-generation single-volume Rodius from 2004, which could accommodate up to 11 passengers!

Any description of the bodywork is redundant because the Rhodius really looks like it's from another planet. Neither Mercedes' 3,2-liter V6 engines with 217 hp nor the 2,7-liter common-rail diesel with 162 hp helped him.

Ford Scorpio (1994)

For one of the biggest design glitches of the European auto industry, Ford's official photographer, who took a photo for the press from an unusual angle, made the ugly car even uglier. The Ford Scorpio of the second generation (1994-1998) was criticized for its too Americanized appearance, especially from the rear.

All the journalists and media of the time competed in criticism, from Jeremy Clarkson who said that the Scorpion was certainly the ugliest car on the road, to Quentin Wilson who in 1997 in Top Gear stated that the Scorpion was designed as if Ray Charles or Stevie had drawn it. Wonder.

Subaru B9 Tribeca

The Japanese SUV, which was produced from 2005 to 2014, started out as a model with an unusual front end that didn't sit well with everyone, and only with a redesign did it become an SUV for the masses, but even then without excessive success.

It was produced in America mainly for the American market, and was even supposed to work as a 9-6 Saturday, but that project was stopped in time.

BMW 7 Series (E65)

After the most beautiful and elegant series 7 of the third generation (E38), BMW made a salto mortale with its successor, because it handed the pencil to the controversial American designer Chris Bengle. The fourth generation (E65) presented in 2001, thanks to its unusually designed details, received very negative reviews from previous BMW customers and the general automotive public.

Such an appearance was simply difficult to digest, so a redesign arrived very quickly that "ironed out" all the details that hurt the eyes. Overall, this car wasn't a failure, but it wasn't until the next two generations that BMW's biggest sedan got back on track in terms of looks. Today, BMW claims that they needed just that, something new and provocative, in order to draw attention to their brand.

Daevu takuma

The family compact Korean MPV introduced in 2000 was supposed to be an answer to the Renault Megane sedan. Although the Pininfarina studio was in charge of the body design, the car ended up being, in the mildest sense, very unusual.

With its wavy body lines, it didn't do well in Europe, although it generally achieved solid success as the Chevrolet Takuma, Chevrolet Reco, Chevrolet Vivant or Daevu Reco, depending on the market where it was sold.

Mercedes R-Class

They also gave him very rude nicknames, and one of them was "container on wheels". But does the Mercedes R-Class deserve such descriptions.

The unusual MPV with three rows of seats with a huge luxurious cabin and all-wheel drive, and even with the 63 AMG designation if desired, did not do well in Europe, but was also very popular in America. Since its introduction in 2006, the R-Class has been one of the most popular Mercedes.

Chrysler PT Cruiser

Chrysler is a renowned car manufacturer, so no one could understand how they could have missed such a mistake. A car that was supposed to be a retro model reminiscent of Al Capone-era Chicago is one of the ugliest sights on the streets.

When it was introduced in 2001, it was interesting, but people soon started to hate its appearance. PT Cruiser suddenly became like a dog too old and sick to run after the bat his owner had just thrown. However, Chrysler removed it from the offer only in 2010.

Nissan mikra CC

Since Peugeot with the 206 CC cabriolet recorded enormous demand and sailed on the waves of success, many other manufacturers immediately tried to offer the concept of an affordable city cabriolet with a hard folding roof. From Mitsubishi with the Colt CZC, to Nissan with the micro CC.

The Nissan cabriolet with a hard top was presented in 2005, and for the version with a folding top, the Japanese hired specialists from the renowned body shop Karman. And everything would be fine if the car didn't look the way it does, as if it was made hastily and without reason, just to join the growing CC trend as soon as possible.

Bentley Bentayga

Bentley's first SUV, based on the Audi Q7 called the Bentayga, seems to draw its design guidelines from the EXP 9 F concept, which did not receive positive reviews, so the production model is not the prettiest either.

Implementing Bentley's otherwise perfectly formed lines of coupes, convertibles and sedans onto a single SUV was clearly not an easy feat.
